The fourth annual “Sabor de Baja,” will take place Wednesday, August 31, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Rosarito Beach Hotel. This end of summer, white affair, is a friendly culinary competition among 20 of the best chefs of Baja, paired with the finest wines and artisanal beer producers.

Ticket includes access to all food and wine, live entertainment and a commemorative wine glass.

The intent of the Sabor de Baja is to promote gastronomy and tourism between the U.S. and Baja. Each attendee will be able to taste a pairing of the chefs creations together with the wine or beer producers. There are two main awards given that night: The first is decided by a panel of distinguished judges and the second is called the “People’s Choice” which is decided by popular voting from every attendee who submits a ballot.

VIP seating (limited quantity): guarantees a seat by the stage, entrance to the event 30 minutes before the general public, waiter service to your table, and a “goodie bag” with offerings from local vendors and restaurants.

Tijuana has been called the home of craft brewing in Mexico, and the Expo Cerveza Artesenal Tijuana ("Tijuana Craft Beer Expo") is the flagship tasting event for the burgeoning Mexican craft beer movement. On October 24th, The Baja Kitchen (no relation to Baja Test Kitchen) will host a farm-to-table dinner at La Cocina Que Canta culinary center in Tecate, Mexico. Savor six gourmet courses by six of Baja’s finest chefs, paired with Guadalupe Valley wines and regional craft beer. The Festival de Queso, Vino y Cerveza Artesanal will take place on September 19, 2015 at the Baja California Center (the new convention center) on the North side of Rosarito, just off the toll road. This free event will feature live music and regional cheese, wine and craft beer.

This Ensenada street festival celebrates Northern Baja's burgeoning craft beer movement. This one-day festival will feature a variety of artisan beers, food vendors, culinary demonstrations, live music and take-away commemorative beer glasses. Location is on the south side of Ensenada, near Costco, in the La Lagunita area. Tickets are $150 MXN (about $9.50 USD) when purchased in advance through local businesses, or $200 MXN (about $12.50 USD) at the door on the day of the event. The 5th annual Festival Vegano (Vegan Food Festival) will be held in Tijuana on Sunday, September 6th from 12-noon to 9pm in the Paseo Rodríguez. The purpose of this FREE event is to spread the vegan lifestyle, peace, love and cruelty-free eating. All vendors will present 100% vegan foods. There will also be art, design, music and ecology presentations.

Paseo Rodríguez is a covered pedestrian-only alleyway accessed from Avenida Revolución or Avenida Consititución, between 3rd and 4th streets in the Zona Centro of Tijuana.

Taste a bit of Mexican history! Chiles en Nogada is a classic Mexican dish from Puebla consisting of poblano chiles filled with a 'picadillo' of shredded meat, fruits, spices and aromatics draped in a walnut (hence the name of the dish — "nogal" is the Spanish word for walnut) sauce garnished with chiles and pomegranate seeds.  It is a dish with a deeply patriotic tradition.  On the one hand the colors of the dish — green from the chiles, white from the sauce and red from the pomegranate — reads like the Mexican tricolor flag itself.  Beyond that, though, its creation is said to be linked to Mexican independence having supposedly been created with Emperor Agustín de Iturbide first came to Puebla after being named emperor.

The Sixth Annual Festival del Chile en Nogada will take place this Sunday on Avenida Revolucion between 8th and 9th Streets starting at noon.  I would happily tell you where to acquire tickets…but you don’t need them.  Its free!
